Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Balancing Program
PCOS is a whole body endocrine disorder which affects 10-25% of all women. It impacts a wide range of hormones including estrogen, testosterone, melatonin and cortisol. Menstrual irregularities and infertility are common with PCOS, and if gone untreated, those with PCOS have higher rates of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, blood clots, endometrial cancer, breast cancer, sleep disorders, anxiety and depression. In many cases of PCOS, women suffer from physical attributes including hirsutism (dark hair grown on face, chest and back), Alopecia ( loss of hair on head) and chronic acne.
How is PCOS treated?
In traditional medicine, those with PCOS are treated with birth control pills. With this treatment, symptoms are masked in that acne improves and periods regulate, however this method is treating the symptoms, not the root cause of PCOS.
At Balanced Wellness, we use a functional medicine approach to treat PCOS. First, we conduct an in depth interview, discussing past medical history and factors which lead to a patient's current health status. We do advanced testing to identify hormone and nutrient imbalances in the body. A comprehensive plan is crafted including supplements and perhaps traditional medications. We formulate lifestyle interventions around diet, exercise, stress management, sleep, and limiting toxic exposures. Our unique approach to PCOS will increase a woman’s vitality and quality of life.
